Gathering Garden
BYU's Gathering Gardens are powered by students and supported by the College of Life Sciences, the Ballard Center for Social Impact, and the Sustainability Office.
UPDATE: Because of the heat, volunteer hour has been moved to Thursdays, 8am to 9am.
A living laboratory, the Gathering Gardens invite BYU students to gain hands-on experience with sustainable food systems, from garden design and crop selection to soil health and compost management, and learn to grow healthy produce. In the process, they also gain leadership skills and develop a stronger sense of teamwork, stewardship, belonging, resilience, and wellness.
Launched in 2026, the Gathering Gardens have two locations:
- between the Risk Management Building and South Campus Office Building, about one-half block south of the BYU Botany Pond (see the black box in the photo on the left)
- west of Wasatch Elementary School, off of 820 North, directly across from the new Oxford Road gated community (see the black box in the photo to the right)
No prior experience is needed to volunteer! Because of the heat, we'll gather every Thursday, 8am to 9am, through the end of the summer. Sign up here for emails and other updates.
