Gathering Garden

The Gathering Garden is powered by students and supported by the College of Life Sciences, the Ballard Center for Social Impact, and the Sustainability Office.

From the Ground Up: A New Food Garden Takes Shape at BYU

A living laboratory, the Gathering Garden invites BYU students to gain hands-on experience with sustainable food systems, from garden design and crop selection to soil health and compost management, and learn to grow healthy produce. In the process, they also gain leadership skills and develop a stronger sense of teamwork, stewardship, belonging, resilience, and wellness.

Launched in 2026, the garden is located between the Risk Management Building and South Campus Office Building (look for the deer fencing) and has volunteer hours every Tuesday at 5pm. No prior experience is needed!

Special thanks to Environmental Science and Sustainability students Lia Hancock, Esther Jorgensen, and Eli Dean, who produced several videos about gardening projects at BYU:
